Culture and tradition - A volunteer's guide to Da Nang

Updated : 2015/04/15

Our teacher, Lesley, has a favorite food in Danang, banh xeo. People translate this as pancake, or crepe, but we prefer sizzling cake. Here, Fancy and Sugar show us how to make this delicious, fatty food. You can follow along at home, and enjoy banh xeo wherever you are!

Mary, Jad, Jennifer, Hang, Chris, and Phuong show us how to make mussel noodles. In Danang, you're in the wrong place if you don't like seafood. Here, it's unbelievably fresh, and local seasoning makes dishes among the best in the world.

These ladies (Sugar, My, Fancy, LK, Dory, Jessica, Julie, Kaze, and Kira) give a GREAT panorama of culture in Danang. Starting with breakfast in the streets, they walk us through daily life, then explain funeral traditions, betel nut chewing, and communal gathering spaces. Enjoy listening to their explanations, and contact us if you have questions! (English and Vietnamese , both with English subtitles)

Hoi An might just be the most famous backpacker destination in Vietnam. However, many of Hoi An's cultural attractions go ignored by the masses. Follow Yury, Pinky, Ryan, Zelo, Sarah, Amy, Kate, and Nga to a local artisan's workshop in Thanh Ha, where they learn to make traditional pottery. Then, they take us to watch dancers on the Hoai riverside. Finally, Zelo, Pinky, and Ryan tour the silk lantern shops that line the streets of the charming ancient town. (English, and Vietnamese with subtitles)
